Why Use GIS Module ?

XP Software’s advanced GIS Module, is a powerful software tool for linking xpswmm to GIS databases.

Its main purpose is to facilitate the import and export of modeling data from GIS and other data sources such as spreadsheets, asset management software and OLE/ODBC compliant databases.

It also allows the inclusion of shape files as background layers and the data to be viewed and manipulated in our productive XP graphical environment.

The latest features within GIS Module include:

  • Intelligent connectivity and data checking and reporting along with the ability to determine entity attributes from the network (conduit length/slopes, subcatchment area etc.).

  • Import and Export all Runoff, Sanitary, or Hydraulics layer data.

  • Data can be instantly imported, exported or updated with a single click.

Overview:

The module’s two main focuses are:

(1) complete integration of GIS or data with xpswmm, by importing and exporting and

(2) integrating GIS graphics with xpswmm and allowing XP's powerful editing, management and viewing of this data.

Plan view editing and importing from GIS

The graphical plan view editor tools of xpswmm can be used to quickly draw or edit the physical entities of a model (conduits, nodes and subcatchments).

Any number of background layers can be displayed, with support for all common map layer formats including: ArcInfo/ArcView shape files, AutoCAD DXF and DWG files, MapInfo, and MicroStation, as well as raster image support for TIFF, JPG, BMP and many more.

For example, you can tile digital ortho-quads and/or have multiple thematic ArcView layers displayed under your model network.

Links to existing Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and/or Facilities/Information Management Systems (FMS/IMS) are easily performed with full SQL query support. The most common database formats (Access, Excel and .DBF) are already configured with OLE drivers, and wizards step you through the process for all other OLE/ODBC compliant databases with ease.

Object (link and node) attributes are easily edited through tables, or dialogs, and/or imported from existing SWMM files, numerous database formats, spreadsheets and other file types. The reduction of model complexity is available with the several tools of our award winning XP interface (very useful when importing data from GIS/IMS).
